The Avalon Mountain Bike Association is lobbying for the federal government to recognize the White Hills Trail Network under the National Urban Parks strategy.
The national strategy was created to enhance and promote the development, management and conservation of urban parks across the country, and the local association calls the White Hills Trail Network a “gem” worthy of formal recognition.
The Trail Association is turning to members and the general public to show their support for AMBA and 17 km White Hills Trail Network.
President Lachlan Roe-Bose says the land is owned by the federal government, and there is no structured process in place to engage with the association in formalizing the network.
But some progress has been made, “and we currently have probably the strongest relationship we’ve ever had with the land owner and the land manager” Public Services and Procurement Canada which is now reviews and approves maintenance plans for the trail network.
