The provincial government has issued a tender for the completion of the Team Gushue highway.
The most recently completed section of the highway opened nearly six years ago, with the final stretch being stuck in limbo ever since.
Last year, the province and the feds announced a 50/50 cost sharing agreement for the project, and had said construction would begin this spring.
Now, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister John Abbott says the work will begin within the next few months.
The work will start in late summer/early fall, and should be completed in the 2026 construction season.
The project will see the highway extended from where it currently ends at Topsail Road to the Robert E. Howlett in the Goulds.
The project also involves installing drainage culverts, an overpass and auxiliary access roads, and the realignment of a section of Brookfield Road.
Abbott says the province has put aside $15-million for the project, and Ottawa will put up the same, so he hopes the tenders will come in around that price.
