The Mayor of Fogo Island says people in the town are bracing for anything with news that the Veteran will once again be heading to drydock for repairs in the fall.
The ship recently went back into service after being out of commission for over six months. However, government says that ferry and the Legionnaire need to have their engines replaced.
Andrew Shea says the initial reaction in the town is “shock” given the lengthy stretch they just had to endure without the vessel.
He says they have spoken with government, and they made it “quite clear” that the Beaumont Hamel cannot handle the demand.
Government is trying to find a replacement vessel to lease, but Shea says government has not found anything yet.
He hopes that if a vessel can’t be found in time, then the repairs will be delayed.
