Delegates from across the country are meeting in St. John’s this week to discuss agriculture in the classroom and developing educational programs to encourage greater interest in the agriculture industry.
The Rendez-vous on the Rock national gathering is co-hosted by Agriculture in the Classroom NL and its national counterpart, Agriculture in the Classroom Canada.
National director, Mathieu Rouleau says the aim of the program is to inspire young people, and get them thinking more about agriculture and how the food they eat gets on their plate.
“Fifty-six per cent of Canadians asked cannot identify a career outside that typical farmer,” says Rouleau. He says they’re about helping young people get interested in the more than 80 types of careers involved in making the food system work.
The meeting is taking place at the ALT Hotel in St. John’s.
