The FFAW is bringing its latest rally against DFO’s decision to open the northern cod fishery to foreign and offshore fleets to the waterfront in St. John’s this morning.
The union will be giving away close to 2,000 pounds of fresh northern cod, caught in the sentinel fishery, to the public at 9 a.m.
The union is using the cod giveaway to draw attention to their demands for Ottawa to reverse a decision to reopen the commercial cod fishery.
Harvesters are demanding reopening of the stewardship fishery and reaffirmation of the 115,000 tonne commitment they say was broken by the federal government.
