Patients affected by a privacy breach at Western Health are entitled to $700 each as a class action, launched in 2012, draws to a close.
The breach occurred when an employee accessed the private medical files of some 1,000 patients.
The class action was launched more than a decade ago and an out-of-court settlement was reached in 2022.
A settlement approval hearing is scheduled for September 9th, and funds will be mailed to each class member if approved by the court.
Lawyer Bob Buckingham admits it’s been a long and drawn out class action, and he believes the settlement is a “just and equitable” one.
