A woman, whose remains were discovered in a suitcase in the capital city earlier this week was identified as a woman from Iran who had only arrived in the province recently to join her husband – who is also dead.
The horrific discovery of the woman’s remains was made Tuesday evening by a member of the public in a overgrown lot next to the Newman Wine Vaults.
RNC Constable James Cadigan say the 33-year-old victim was from Iran, and that the victim’s husband, who is a suspect in the crime, was found dead by investigating officers.
The Chief Medical Examiner determined that the woman had died days earlier, and the husband, a 34-year-old man, was found dead in his downtown home.
The man’s body was found on Monday while the woman’s remains weren’t discovered until Tuesday evening.
RNC have released a surveillance photo of the suspect with a suitcase in hopes of generating more information from the public.
Police believe the suitcase was dropped in the location where it was found, sometime between 1 and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10th.
The man had been in the province for several years for educational purposes, while his wife had only arrived in May.
RNC are calling it a targeted attack, but wouldn’t call it a murder-suicide at this time as the investigation continues. They are working on a timeline of events spanning from July 10th to July 16th and are looking for any possible video footage from an area bordering LeMarchant Road, east along Water Street to McBride’s Hill, and Springdale Street.
