Premier Andrew Furey shook things up this afternoon with a major cabinet shuffle involving nine separate ministers and portfolios.
John Hogan is taking over Health on a permanent, full-time basis after being appointed to the role on an interim basis after Tom Osborne’s retirement from politics earlier this month. Hogan will stay on as Attorney General.
Bernard Davis moves from Environment to Justice and Public Safety, making way for Lisa Dempster who takes over as the Minister of Environment.
Sarah Stoodley moves from Digital Government to Immigration and Population Growth, while Elvis Loveless moves from Fisheries and Forestry to Digital Government and Service NL.
John Abbott has been moved from Transportation to Housing and Mental Health and Addictions while Fred Hutton shifts over to the new portfolio of Rural Economic Development and Transportation and Infrastructure.
Gerry Byrne is back in the Fisheries portfolio, and Scott Reid has been appointed as the new minister of Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation.
Also, Lake Melville MHA Perry Trimper has a new parliamentary role. Trimper was appointed as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier, and Parliamentary Secretary for Veterans and Military Relations.
