A man sentenced to more than six years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage girl is facing new, disturbing charges against staff at HMP.
Stephen Hopkins was sentenced in April for forcing his way into the girl’s home, and carrying her to a bedroom where he assaulted her.
The 33-year-old was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison, but with time already served is due to be released this coming January.
He’s then subject to five years’ supervision after being deemed a long-term offender, because that wasn’t his first sex offence, and apparently not his last.
VOCM News has learned Hopkins is facing five counts of committing indecent acts while housed at the Pen—namely, masturbating in front of guards, most of them female.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred once in March of last year, and four times last month.
In sentencing Hopkins in April, Justice Peter O’Flaherty wished him luck, saying he hoped he’d get the help he needed to “change the trajectory of his life.”
The latest charges suggest that’s far from the case.
Hopkins is due back in court, likely by video from HMP, on August 21.
