A man and a woman, who had court orders to stay away from each other, are both facing a list of charges stemming from the theft of alcohol from a store in George’s Brook.
RCMP were first notified of the theft just before 9 p.m. Saturday.
Police tried to pull over the suspect vehicle a short time later but it fled the scene at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue.
Not too long after, the vehicle was found parked at a home in Clarenville.
Two suspects, identified as Tyler Balsom and Nicole Robbins, both of whom are 30-years-old, were arrested at the home. The stolen alcohol was found in the back of the vehicle.
Police accuse Balsom of resisting arrest and, after being placed in the back of a police cruiser, damaging the vehicle.
Both of the accused appeared in court on Monday. Robbins was released while Balsom was remanded to custody. He made another court appearance yesterday.
Nicole Robbins is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Theft under $5000.00
- Flight from police
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance (motor vehicle)
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Failure to comply with a condition of an undertaking
Tyler Balsom is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Resisting arrest
- Mischief under $5000.00 – damage to property
- Failure to comply with a condition of an undertaking
