A new midwifery program is being launched in Carbonear one week from today.
The program will be implemented in a phased approach beginning August 5 and will include three core services: prenatal care, postpartum care, and other services that includes cervical cancer screening as well as sexual/reproductive health services.
NL Health Services says by February 2025, three midwives will deliver the program. An expansion of services is also planned at that time.
Vice President and COO of the Eastern-Rural Zone. Debbie Walsh says the new midwifery program is a significant step forward in enhancing the level of care provided to new parents and babies.
Once the program begins August 5, people can be referred by a health care provider or can self-refer by calling 709-945-5517.
