The place where Newfoundland and Labrador’s Unknown Soldier rested for more than a century will be remembered for years to come with a new commemorative marker.
The Unknown WWI Soldier was brought home to the province from France in May, with thousands coming out to pay their respects over the course of several days of lying in state at Confederation Building.
The solider was laid to rest during a ceremony at the refurbished National War Memorial in downtown St. John’s on July 1.
The soldier’s former resting place at the Cagnicourt British Cemetery in France is now marked with a commemorative marker in his memory.
