The downtown Pedestrian Mall has been offering a wide spread of shops, food vendors and other events over the summer months, but until now there was little to offer in terms of accessible bathroom facilities.

The city has now installed two portable accessible toilets and a handwashing station at the corner of Harbour Drive and Ayre’s Cove.

The facilities are open from noon – 10 p.m. daily until the mall closes on Labour Day.

Councillor Jill Bruce says adding more places to go has been something the city has been working on for the past few years, but put the wheels in motion this week.

She says they had to find a solution due to the bathroom at Atlantic Place not being easily accessible like they were in the past. Bruce says they’ve already received some positive feedback from those at the Pedestrian Mall.
