Employees with NL-based Fortis Inc. are reeling after one of its workers was shot in Alberta on Tuesday.
The search is continuing for two suspects wanted in the rural roadside attack east of Calgary that left another man dead.
FortisAlberta said one of its employees was shot and injured while performing routine work, while a statement from Rocky View County said one of its workers died in the incident, but did not provide details.
A spokesperson for Fortis, which is headquartered in this province, confirmed their employee was shot by an unknown assailant, was treated in hospital and released later the same night.
The worker’s hometown was not released but he is not believed to be from this province.

“The safety of our employees and the public has always been our top priority, and this situation is deeply concerning for FortisAlberta and our entire Fortis team,” said company spokesperson Karen McCarthy in an email response to VOCM News. “We are grateful that FortisAlberta’s employee is recovering and that the company is providing any support he, his family, and his colleagues need at this time.”
The company also extended condolences to the family and friends of the other man who died in the shooting.
RCMP have since said the incident was a random act of violence.
They’re also seeking more information or surveillance video of a white 2013 Dodge Ram pickup truck with teal-coloured rims that had earlier been reported stolen in Calgary.
