They’ve been around for decades, but not all drivers and passengers are fastening their seatbelts on our roadways, and it’s having a deadly impact.
RCMP Corporal Jolene Garland says just this year alone, 60 per cent of those who have died were not wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash.
She says wearing a seatbelt doesn’t make you invincible, but it can help prevent more serious injuries or death.
“Maybe some would have succumbed to their injuries anyway, but we certainly believe that seatbelt usage would have had different outcomes for many.”
