The Single Parent Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (SPANL) is hoping to fill a Metrobus to the brim with school supplies to help parents send their kids back to school with all the essentials.
Program manager Amy Tatchell says it’s more expensive than ever to send a child back to class, which is putting a lot of stress on single parents.
Tatchell says they’re hoping to fill a thousand backpacks to help kids across the province, but they need the public’s help to do so, adding they’re running low on a few key items.
High on the needs list are geometry kits, graph paper, and other basics like markers and colouring pencils.
They’re also accepting monetary donations,
Items can be dropped off at bins located throughout the Village Shopping Centre.
And VOCM will be live from the Village on Friday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m. for the annual Block the Bus event in partnership with SPANL and the VOCM Cares Foundation.
