A Bonavista Bay man is in deeper with the law after a bizarre incident in the Port Union area last weekend.
RCMP say they were doing checks along Route 230 just outside the town when they spotted a car driving on the steel rim of one of its front tires, at highway speed, with its front end also scraping the pavement.
Police tried to pull over the driver but he fled and tried to escape through someone’s backyard, before getting stuck.
The 66-year-old man from Princeton, Bonavista Bay was later found to be already owing more than $24,000 in fines.
On top of that, he now faces charges of driving with a suspended licence, and without insurance or due care and attention.
The man, who was not named by police, is due in provincial court on Sept. 26.
His tire-less car was also impounded.
