The minister of education says all schools in the PWC feeder system are projected to be under their educational capacity when students return next month.
Parents of students at St. Andrew’s, Leary’s Brook, Larkhall and PWC have been raising the alarm for months about planned grade configuration changes at the schools.
They worry that the changes, which are being implemented until a new school is built in Kenmount Terrace, will result in more overcrowding and headaches for students.
Speaking on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, Minister Krista Lynn Howell provided numbers for projected enrolment in September.
She says the educational capacity at St. Andrew’s is 365, with projected enrolment at 289; the cap at Larkhall is 545 with a projection of 351 students; the capacity at Leary’s Brook is 677 against a projection of 526, and the PWC cap is 1,085 with a projected enrolment of 789.
Howell believes parents and students will see a positive difference when compared to last year.
She says last year there was a significant influx of students into the system, and they aren’t expecting that this year.
