The local Ukrainian community is coming together next weekend in Bannerman Park to celebrate their culture and share their food, costume and song with others.
The Blue and Yellow Fest is a labour of love for Julia Veretennik.
Newfoundland and Labrador has seen an influx of thousands of Ukrainians since the Russian invasion more than two years ago, and families are integrating into communities throughout the province.
She calls the festival “her baby” and she is getting plenty of help from the local community in putting the festival together.
She says Ukraine has a long history with lots of talented people. “Ever since I came here, I always wanted to do something for the community. I wanted to show our culture, and tell people about Ukraine more.”
The Blue and Yellow Fest is scheduled for next Saturday, August 24 in Bannerman Park from 12 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the local Ukrainian community is inviting the public to a special concert to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day. The concert is scheduled for next Saturday, August 24th on the George Street stage from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Ukrainian and Canadian bands will perform, along with traditional Ukrainian dancers and performers with a dedicated kids’ zone.
