A Paradise mother who’s 11-year-old son qualifies for accessible transit, says accessible transit in the area leaves a lot to be desired.
Lisa Loveless-Hodder’s son Jake Anstey was a healthy and active child, but all that changed when he suffered a cardiac arrest, leaving him with severe brain damage.
As a result, he requires the use of a wheelchair to get around.
Loveless-Hodder told Tim Powers on VOCM that while Jake was accepted to the town’s accessible transit program, gaining access to a wheelchair accessible cab is not always easy, and she knows she isn’t alone.
She says after an extended stay in hospital, Jake is back home, but getting around has proven difficult.
She says the only places he’s been able to go is the Janeway and his father’s house. The challenges that they’re having getting a taxi, are have left them stuck to their cul-de-sac or sitting on the patio.
She says having GoBus extended to Paradise would be a start.
“The GoBus does not service Paradise,” says Loveless-Hodder, “but that also frustrates me because there’s a Metrobus stop a two-minute walk from our house.”
