Memorial University’s Students’ Union will be watching with interest the actions of MUN’s Board of Regents now that Justin Ladha has been appointed as the new Chair.
MUNSU has made a number of demands of the university in recent months including calling for greater transparency and divestment in light of the ongoing bombardment of Gaza by Israel in the wake of the October 7 attacks on Israeli citizens.
Ladha replaces Glenn Barnes who resigned last week.
Executive Director of External Affairs with MUNSU, Nicolas Keough says they were surprised by Ladha’s appointment without any consultation.
“We are interested to see if he will listen to students, if he is interested in changing the divestment decision that was made (at the) last Board of Regents meeting, but we also have a lot of concerns. We’re really concerned about the fact that students and community were not consulted at all when making this decision.”
