The Chair of the Federation of School Councils welcomes word from the Department of Education that a renewed policy is coming on the use of electronic devices in schools.

It comes after other jurisdictions, including Ontario and Manitoba, imposed bans on the use of cell phones by students while in class.

The Department of Education is not saying whether it’s planning to impose an outright ban but says a new policy is coming after a period of consultation.

Don Coombs told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM that he welcomes changes to address harm being experienced by students and disruptions in the learning environment.
