Keyin College has announced some support for three different soccer initiatives throughout the province.
A total of $200,000 has been set aside.
$120,000 of that goes toward a three-year agreement with Barrow AFC, the club that the provincial government has partnered up with, to help bring those players to this province to help young soccer players.
Keyin has also entered a similar partnership with the team as the province, in which the school’s logo will be displayed on the club’s jerseys.
The school has also agreed to give the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association $10,000 per year for three years, and the remaining $50,000 is being donated to the Kick it Up Campaign – which supports Canada Summer Games athletes.
Charlie Reid, the executive director with the NLSA, says it is important for young players to see the excitement and interest that he believes is building around the sport in the province.
He says it is great to see the players focusing on their own development, noting that there are many opportunities within the soccer industry they could pursue.
