Jamie Korab has won the Waterford Valley by-election.
Korab celebrated the victory with his family by his side, and a room full of supporters cheering him on.
Korab won with 2067 votes, the PCs Jesse Wilkins came in second with 1423 votes, Nicole Boland of the NDP garnered 1027 votes.
Korab has been in politics for seven years . He was elected as the ward 3 councillor with the city of St. John’s in 2017.
With the move to provincial politics, Korab’s seat on city council becomes vacant
Korab says the victory ranks up there with some of his other milestones such as his wedding day, the birth of his kids, and his gold medal win. He says the experience had a different feel than his election wins at city hall.
Korab believes his experience at city hall will translate well to provincial politics.
He says many of the constituents he dealt with at the city are also in the Waterford Valley District. Korab also notes that often times people would reach out to him with provincial issues – not realizing which level of government was responsible. He believes he will “hit the ground running.”
