The Canadian Home Builders Association-NL is working with the capital city to help lift some barriers to building needed housing.
Federal, provincial and municipal officials have put a real push on stimulating the development of more housing options to address a housing crunch, but barriers remain.
Alexis Foster applauds many of the incentive programs that have been developed, and they’re working with city officials to address the remaining barriers.
“We’re still seeing some things, even if it’s just in their development regulations.” Foster says some things included in the city’s Design Manuel are slowing development, including requirements for certain landscaping requirements that “aren’t necessarily feasible, or curb stops, when you’re going to tear up the curb stops during construction.” She says the city has already indicated a willingness to discuss those items with developers.
