Students at Bayview Academy in St. George’s will have a delayed start to the new school year after flooding caused significant damage to the school’s K-6 wing.
Department of Education officials say heavy rainfall caused the roof drain in the primary and elementary side of the building to separate.
Contractors determined classrooms would not be ready in time for the new school year, with repairs expected to be completed later in the fall.
K-6 students will be temporarily relocated to classrooms in the Grades 7-12 section of the building until the repairs are complete.
Due to the reconfiguration, students at Bayview will head back to class two days later than scheduled on Friday, Sept. 6.
NLSchools officials say staff will be on site to ensure a smooth transition.
