While COVID cases appear to be surging in other parts of the country, the province’s chief medical officer of health says that isn’t currently the case in this province.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says there has been a “steady amount of COVID over the summer,” but officials aren’t seeing the surges being reported in other jurisdictions.
She says there are more COVID cases in the province this summer over last, “but not remarkably so,” adding hospitalizations have remained stable.
A new vaccine is also expected to be available in the province soon, but Fitzgerald says there’s no firm date yet.
However, she expects it will be ready to roll out with the fall vaccination campaign.
