The provincial government is taking feedback around other nicotine products when developing a generational policy around tobacco.
Government is considering legislative changes that would ban anyone over a certain age from purchasing tobacco products, but advocates want that expanded to include nicotine as many young people today are using other products such as vapes.
Premier Andrew Furey says the consultation process is ongoing, noting that he recently met with an anti-tobacco group over some concerns they have about the effects of such a policy.
He says that group was concerned that such a policy would be done to the exclusion of education and treatment options, which he assures would not be the case. Furey says the group also brought up issues around nicotine, which the government will consider moving forward.
