The St. John’s International Airport Authority is watching the potential strike situation at Air Canada very closely.
Members of the Air Line Pilots Association have set 12:01 a.m. Wednesday (Eastern Time) as the deadline for strike action if a deal with the carrier can’t be found.
In the meantime, the airline has already started to wind down operations to try to reduce the number of stranded passengers.
Yesterday, Tourism Minister Steve Crocker and Hospitality NL CEO Craig Foley issued a joint statement expressing their concern about the potential disruption in service, and its impact, if the Air Canada pilots go on strike.
Air Canada says it’ll notify its customers within 48 hours of the scheduled departure time if their flight is cancelled and rebook them on another flight — depending on available seats.
The St. John’s International Airport Authority says it’s watching the unfollowing situation closely and is encouraging passengers to check with Air Canada directly for the most up-to-date information.
