The parent company of Central Dairies says a problem affecting certain 2% 2-litre cartons of milk is an “isolated event.”
Some customers reported a black residue on the inside of some cartons, and took to social media to share their pictures.
Agropur says some cartons of milk spoiled early and the affected products are most likely no longer on store shelves. The company says there is no health risk associated with the consumption of the products and that’s why the product was not removed from store shelves.
Agropur offered more information on the situation in response to additional questions from VOCM News.
The company says the discolouration is the result of spoilage, usually after the product comes into contact with air after the carton is opened.
Company officials are analyzing the situation, and corrective and preventative measures put in place last week “have been found effective.”
