Condolences are pouring in after an extensive and unsuccessful search for a crew member missing from a Canadian Guard Ship was called off last night.
The Canadian Coast Guard today said it was “devastated to confirm” that the crew member was lost at sea and that the decision to end searches are never taken lightly.
The employee, who was on board the Canadian Coast Guard Ship the Vincent Massey was discovered to be missing when the vessel entered St. John’s harbour on Monday morning.
A search of the ship was conducted, followed by an extensive air and sea search of the waters off the coast.
That search was called off last evening.
Conservative MP and critic for Fisheries and Oceans, Clifford Small, is offering his condolences on the loss of the crewmember.
He thanked everyone involved in the “valiant search and rescue effort.”
