Housing Minister John Abbott says more applications are already being processed through an expansion of the Canada Housing Benefit for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence in this province.
Yesterday, the provincial and federal governments announced $17-million for the initiative, which is expected to help close to 600 people who are fleeing violence find housing in the private rental market.
Abbott says there are over 100 people on their waitlist looking to flee domestic violence.
He says an approval process is happening, meaning “right from the get go” they can start placing people in safe housing.
