The Chief Executive Officer of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment says he’s aware of media reports circulating, but it’s far too early to say where efforts are in terms of securing a junior hockey team as an anchor tenant at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
St. John’s lost its professional hockey team last year with the dissolution of the Growlers, leaving them without an anchor hockey tenant.
The facility is filling the gap this year with the junior and Senior Caps.
There has been speculation that efforts are underway to secure the QMJHL’s Acadie-Bathurst Titan, but Brent Meade says it’s far too early to discuss anything specific about securing a team from the Q.
“There’s a lot of pieces of that puzzle that have to come together, and we’re continuing to explore that,” says Meade. “There’s certainly nothing that’s fully-baked, or anything that’s even close to being announced other than to say that I remain optimistic and we’re beginning to pursue all options.”
