The CEO of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment says the hockey season got off to an encouraging start at Mary Brown’s Centre with some 500 tickets sold for the Junior Caps home opener last Friday night.
The Senior Caps are also calling the Mary’s Brown’s Centre home this season while efforts continue to secure an anchor tenant after the Growlers folded before the end of the season.
Brent Meade says the Junior Caps home opener was great fun, and they’re looking forward to a great season of hockey with both the Junior and Senior Caps.
The Seniors Caps home opener is October 19. “So the Junior Caps will play 14 home games at Mary Brown’s Centre this year, and the Senior Caps will play ten. And of course if there are playoffs for either of those teams, we’ll try to fit those in as well.
Head coach of the St. John’s Junior Caps, Steve Callahan, calls the home opener at the Mary Brown’s Centre a great weekend of hockey.
“When you have a little vision like that,” he said, referencing those who helped to bring the Junior Caps hockey to the stadium. “You’re certainly riding a lot of positivity.” He praised the work of partners, Paul Mills, Brent Meade “and everyone at Mary Brown’s Centre and St. John’s Sports and Entertainment.”
Meanwhile, the Rogues season opener is set for November 16.
Meade says efforts are underway to secure professional hockey at the Mary’s Browns Centre for the following season, but says it’s far too early in the process to say anything definitive.
