Premier Andrew Furey is heeding calls for a review of investigations into an historical sexual violence case in the east end of St. John’s.
It comes less than 24 hours after PC Leader Tony Wakeham asked for just such a review.
Furey was not available for comment, but in a post on X this morning he said the Child and Youth Advocate will investigate.
The information coming to light in the case of two men in St. John’s charged with abusing youth over several years is deeply concerning. I have directed the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate to conduct an investigation into this matter and report its findings.

Tony Humby, 64, is now facing 72 charges in total. Another man accused in the case, 81-year-old Bruce Escott, isn’t fighting the charges against him and will be sentenced in November.
But recent reports suggest earlier allegations were not pursued by police and social workers.
Furey says the information coming to light about the case is “deeply concerning.”
