Some businesses and services are set to close today to honour National Truth and Reconciliation Day. This day is aimed at raising awareness about the lasting impacts of residential schools and honouring survivors and their families within Indigenous communities.
City offices in the capital city will be closed through Monday, but garbage and recycling collection will stay intact. Robinhood Bay will remain open.
Parking bylaws will be enforced.
The provincial government is also observing the holiday, meaning schools, government offices, and other entities will be closed. NLC stores will stay closed until Tuesday.
Federal Government buildings and services will be halted on Monday as well. This includes Canada Post.
Most banks have opted to stay closed.
Grocery stores like Dominion, Sobeys, and Coleman’s stores plan to stay open. Many drug stores will be open as well.
Many bars and restaurants may choose to stay open.
