A Springdale man wanted on 18 outstanding charges including assault, choking and pointing a firearm, is now facing four additional counts following his arrest on Wednesday.
Twenty five-year-old Joshua Osbourne was finally taken into custody following a dramatic series of events that spanned from Terra Nova National Park to Gander.
RCMP were alerted by a Parks Canada warden around 9 a.m. Wednesday to a car speeding through Terra Nova. The warden had tried to pull the car over, but it sped off, at speeds in excess of 50 km/h over the limit.
Police noticed the same vehicle a short time later, clocked at 158 km/h on the Trans Canada east of Gander, and attempted to pull it over, but again it sped away.
The car in question was later found abandoned in a parking lot west of the airport town, and was linked to the theft of gas from a service station in Bonavista the day before.
Officers with two police dogs tracked the suspect from the car to the highway near James Paton Memorial Hospital where the trail ended, with police believing he was picked up by another driver.
Later that same day, while police were searching a home on Byrd Avenue in Gander, they noticed Osborne running from a home. Once again they gave chase, with police dog Marlow and her handler finding Osbourne hiding underneath a shed.
He now faces a total of 22 charges, including flight from police and weapons offences, with more charges pending.
Osbourne remains in custody with his next court date set for Oct. 9.
