Bay St. George YMCA in Stephenville was all set to harvest a crop of potatoes for the local food bank’s Thanksgiving hampers but was aghast to find on Tuesday that somebody had raided the garden, row by row, stealing all the spuds.
Cheryl Johnson, the executive director of the Y, says they plant a community garden every year for a charitable cause, and this year’s harvest had been earmarked to feed the hungry.
She posted about the pilfered potatoes on Facebook, and over the next few days a community came together—big time. They now have more vegetables than they ever expected.
They made a delivery to the food bank today.
