Police are going to talk further today about a suspicious death in Conception Bay North last week.

Human remains were found inside a burned-out pickup on Country Road in Bay Roberts last Monday. A similar case in nearby Harbour Grace a year-and-a-half ago remains unsolved.

RCMP have called a news conference for 11:00 this morning in St. John’s. VOCM News will be there.

Meanwhile, CB North MHA and cabinet minister Pam Parsons agrees with area mayors on the need for more police officers in that region.

Don Coombs of Harbour Grace and Walter Yetman of Bay Roberts note that the detachments have seen a 14 per cent increase in the number of calls for service.

She has discussed the matter with Premier Andrew Furey and the recently-established Police Transformation Committee. She also notes that recruitment of new officers is difficult not only in this province, but in others.
