The Mayor of Witless Bay is calling the long-awaited completion of the Team Gushue Highway extension a “game changer.”
Last month the province awarded a $30-million contract to Bursey Excavating for completion of the highway.
Witless Bay Mayor Trevor Croft says the work has been a long time coming and will make a huge difference to the many commuters travelling between the Southern Shore and the metro region.
He believes it will also make the commute safer.
“It will increase traffic flow, give better sightlines for moose, which are really plentiful in the area…and keep vehicles away from that vulnerable St. John’s water supply. Like, if an oil truck or something goes off the road there, St. John’s will be in a lot of trouble.”
