It’s been a difficult weekend in Deer Lake.
Fire ravaged one of the town’s most prominent businesses yesterday. The blaze at the Driftwood Inn broke out around 7:00 yesterday morning. Despite the flame and thick plumes of acrid smoke, all guests and staff are believed to be accounted for, although one woman was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
Firefighters were on the scene all day and well into the night, knocking down flames, and dousing hot spots. The building is a complete loss.

People from across the province are sharing their memories of time spent at the iconic landmark which contained the local Jungle Jim’s, a must-stop for many driving across the island.
As if that wasn’t enough, there was also a water outage affecting many parts of the town last night. The town set up a water fill station last evening for residents, as crews worked to restore service.
