Several people are in temporary accommodations after fire raced through a home in the east end of St. John’s yesterday.
Firefighters rushed to an area near the intersection of Torbay Road and Newfoundland Drive during the rush hour commute.
Platoon chief Derek Hunt says everyone managed to get out of the home safely.
“When the first crew arrived on scene, there was black smoke coming from the front and back of the house. We quickly discovered it was a stove fire, which had spread throughout the kitchen, the ceiling and the bedroom in the unit. Two rooms have extensive damage, plus the ceiling in both rooms, so there is quite a bit of smoke, water and fire damage,” Platoon Chief Hunt said.
