The last two loads of cruise ship visitors will arrive in St. John’s Harbour this week—marking the end of a successful season according to city council.
The Borealis and its 1,800 passengers will arrive tomorrow morning and depart early in the afternoon. The final day of the season will be a busy one in the downtown core with 3,000 passengers coming in on the Norwegian Sky.
Councillor Jill Bruce, the lead on cruise ships, says it was a busy year with a total of 33 ships and over 34,000 passengers dropping by.
Bruce says every visitor helps boost the local economy.
According to Bruce, every passenger spends roughly $75 at port. A recent study shows that cruise spending at all cruise ports in the province totals $10 million a season.
