A bridge on the Burin Peninsula Highway will be down to one lane well into next year.
An assessment has revealed that the Red Harbour West River Bridge will need more work than first thought.
Government says traffic lights have been installed and that it will ensure snow and ice control as the bridge is at the bottom of a hill.
MHA Jeff Dwyer, commenting on a several-hour delay last night, says people have to be patient. He says the Baine Harbour Fire Department takes many calls to respond to accidents on the highway, which is the only road access on the peninsula.
He says the department has had 21 callouts so far this year, 19 of which have been motor vehicle accidents.
