First the Premier’s state of the Province address – presented today to the St. John’s Board of Trade – next comes the province’s fall fiscal update.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady will provide an update on the province’s fiscal and economic performance tomorrow.
In 2022, the province reported a $479 million surplus, and a $1 billion drop in the net debt. That surplus resulted in a $500 cost of living benefit to nearly all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
Last year, Coady announced that the province was holding its own, but the deficit was forecast to come in at $154 million for 2023, with no cost of living benefit as a result.
In the spring budget, the focus was on health care, with a deficit pegged at $152 million and net debt forecast at $17.8 billion for the fiscal year.
Minister Coady will deliver her economic update tomorrow at noon at Confederation Building.
VOCM News will be there.
