The RCMP say there was no ill-intent, and information is pointing to a manufacturing issue, after pieces of metal were found in Halloween candy earlier this month.
Cpl. Jolene Garland says police received a couple of those reports in the Trinity-Conception area involving candy from Trunk-or-Treat events.
RCMP made posts on social media about the situation, and Garland says they immediately received a call from someone responsible for supplying some of those treats, noting they were bought at a Carbonear business.
Then, earlier this week, Garland stated police were contacted by the organizer of another event who found a piece of metal inside of a sealed Twizzler/Jolly Rancher combo bag.
She said metal found inside of a sealed package indicates no criminal activity or intent to harm, and suggests an issue with manufacturing or some other problem that occurred before distribution.
Garland stresses that it is safe for children to participate in trick-or-treating tonight, but parents should exercise their normal levels of vigilance.
“Nothing has changed,” asserts Garland, who notes parents may want to pay attention to those Twizzler/Jolly Rancher combos, especially if purchased in the Trinity-Conception area.
