The House of Assembly reconvenes for the fall sitting today.
The House will be open for four weeks between now and December 5, giving decision-makers 15 days in total to debate and pass various pieces of legislation.
Government house leader John Hogan specifically points to legislative changes to the Crown Lands Act, which were announced a few weeks ago, as being on the agenda.
Health care will also be a priority, with Hogan indicating things like expanding scope of practice will be important, as well as tackling legislation that’s been left on the order paper, including changes to the Medical Act and Psychologists Act, and a new bill for research ethics.
He believes there will be some justice-related matters on the agenda, and “maybe a couple of other little surprises.”
PC leader Tony Wakeham outlines his party’s priorities heading into the House, including affordability, health care, and what he calls “significant” safety issues in communities and schools.
NDP leader Jim Dinn speaks of many of the same issues.
Dinn says the NDP will be focusing on healthcare, affordability, and housing.
This session of the legislature takes place with a provincial election looming on the horizon. Premier Andrew Furey must call one by next fall, but the writ could be dropped at any time.
