The replacement for St. Clare’s Hospital is going in Kenmount Crossing, just outside of Kenmount Terrace near Paradise.
Premier Andrew Furey and a host of other government officials made the announcement this morning.
The new acute care hospital campus will be located on Nils Way and include a new Cardiovascular and Stroke Institute.
It will also consolidate general medicine, general surgery programs, and orthopedic programs to a single site, have a focus on acute care for the elderly, and serve as a hub for clinical teaching.
Work is ongoing with a consultant on a functional program and a master plan for the site.
Premier Andrew Furey won’t give a tentative date as of yet for when the hospital is expected to open.
He says it would be premature to say at this stage, noting they need to give it the right amount of thought.
The 10 acres of land in question are being donated by H3 Development Limited, a joint venture between the Hickey Group of Companies, owned by Glenn Hickey and the Hickman Group of Companies, owned by Bert and Jonathan Hickman, along with General Manager Blair McNiven.
According to a release issued by H3, the donation is part of a larger 64-acre acquisition by the provincial government and aligns with the province’s 10-year plan to improve healthcare access across the province.
Kenmount Crossing is located where St. John’s, Mount Pearl and Paradise intersect and is being touted as “ideally positioned” to service the entire Avalon Peninsula and beyond.
The development company says recent infrastructure improvements in the area include roads, water and sewer.
