A state of emergency has been declared for a section of Paradise due to sewage system issues.
Areas served by lift station 10 are affected, including: West of Irving Drive/Paradise Road to St. Thomas Line, St. Thomas Line south of Plateau Park to Topsail Road, the Valley Ridge area, Bremigen’s / Kenmount Road Business Park, Fairview Estates and Woodstock Garden.
The emergency declaration will allow the town to get the resources needed to address capacity at the facility and allow crews to make the necessary repairs.
To keep sewer service operating, pumper trucks are on site at lift station 10 near the border between Paradise and C.B.S.
The town says while there is no direct impact on residents, they are being asked to minimize wastewater use by limiting the use of washing machines and dishwashers, and not flushing toilets.
They say that will help alleviate pressure on the sewer system as crews work on the problem.
There is also no impact on drinking water.
The intersection at Topsail Road and St. Thomas Line is closed to traffic while work is underway. Traffic on Topsail Road is being diverted through Stanhope Drive to Lanark Drive, while traffic from St. Thomas Line is being diverted through Lanark Drive near Lakewynds Subdivision to Topsail Road.
