The province has announced the location of the St. Clare’s hospital replacement, but the news is leaving much to be desired for the opposition parties.
Premier Andrew Furey announced on Tuesday that the new hospital will be located in Kenmount Crossing, just outside of Kenmount Terrace.
PC leader Tony Wakeham wants more details on the plan for the new hospital, including when it will be open and what it will look like.
He says part of the problem facing the healthcare system is government not listening to the people in the system.
Wakeham says one issue he has heard about from nurses is around discharge planning. As an example, he says people are being discharged from the hospital in the morning, but they are still there in the afternoon. That, he says, is resulting in people waiting down in the emergency room for a bed to open up.
One concern NDP leader Jim Dinn raises is around what says is a lack of action from government around human resource issues.
He says there are a lot of announcements, but until government addresses the human resource challenges and other key issues “we’re just chasing our tails, spinning our wheels, and not getting anywhere.”
